Bridget Baird
Professor, Mathematics and Computer Science
The
focus of my professional life has been to discover and share, with students,
some of the joys of mathematics and computer science: applications of computer science in unusual places, a beautiful theorem,
a perfectly structured algorithm,
a virtual reality world with music and art. The underlying theme has been
the liberal arts tradition of crossing boundaries: between teaching and
research, between math and computer science, between computer science
and the arts, between theory and application. Humor, hard work, and creativity
are absolutely essential.
Recent new courses explore applications of computer science in a wide range of fields, mathematics from a cultural perspective (sometimes called ethnomathematics), and dimensional color from a joint CS/art point of view. |
